VMWARE VIRTUALIZATION......

An introduction to virtual machines presented some basic terms such as virtualization, virtual machines, virtual hardwares. The function of VMware player was also touched upon. Today, we start to install this free application on our Windows machines.

Step 1: Download VMware Player 2.0
Go to http://www.vmware.com/download/player/ to download the latest version of VMware Player freely. (It takes 10 to 15 minutes for downloading)

Spep 2: Install VMware Player 2.0

  • Double click on executable file (VMware-player-2.0.0-45731.exe) to start installation

  • Click "Next" to continue

  • Click "Next" to install VMware Player to the default folder

  • Click "Next" and then click "Install" to start installation

  • Click "Finish" to complete your installation successfully.

Example:

download image of Feisty 7.04
In this example, I have downloaded Ubuntu Desktop 7.04 for i386 . However, you can try with any image of Ubuntu Linux from this list.

Step 3: Check the installation
Goto Start -> Programs -> VMware -> VMware Player

Step 4: open VMware player
Goto Start -> Programs -> VMware -> VMware Player
Leave the choice on Create and click "OK" (asked only in the first time)

Step 3: try Ubuntu Feisty in your virtual machine
Click inside VMware Player to use your machine and hit Ctrl-Alt to get back out

Do you like it? Now, you can try Linux or evaluate any Linux software applications quickly without installation any thing because the virtual machines are independent platform.

Cybercriminals in India creating botnets to capture PCs

Cybercriminals in India are increasingly looking at creating botnets, network of computers aimed at attacking and 'capturing' PCs to spread viruses through them to other systems, according to Microsoft report. India ranks 25th in terms of bot infections detected and removed in the quarter ended June 2010, according to the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report version 9. The report covered 200 countries and territories.   The country had 38,954 computers with bots cleaned in Q2 this year compared to 37,895 computers in the previous quarter. A Botnet is a network of computers, controlled by one computer (bot herder), which attacks another PC and makes it a part of its network. The main drivers for botnets are for recognition and financial gains. The larger the botnet, the more recognition the herder can claim to have among the cybercriminal community.

Facebook to launch its first Asian office in Hyderabad

he Hyderabad office will be Facebook's first office in the Asian region. Don Faul, Director, Global On-line Operations and Meenal Balar, International Growth Marketing Manager are expected to be present during the inauguration, the communication said. The website's new operations centre in Hyderabad will supplement operations supported out of Palo Alto in California, Dublin in Ireland, and a recently-announced location in Austin, Texas. Facebook, which has more than 400 million active users worldwide and nearly 8 million subscribers in India, would reportedly invest USD 150 million in the initial phases. According to a senior state government official, Facebook has been allotted about 50,000 sq ft space and is going to recruit close to 500 people for running its operation. Facebook has also said it's expecting to build a world- class team to support a growing number of users, advertisers and developers from India and across the world.
