Using a flash drive...

Your USB flash drive can do a whole lot more than just move data around. Transporting your data is probably the most common use for a USB flash drive. But there’s a world of other things you can do with these handy pocket-size drives. Here are some ways you can use that USB flash drive to do more than just move data. 1: Run portable applications In addition to storing your data, you can run portable applications from a USB flash drive. For example, OpenOffice, which is a complete office suite that includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, drawing package, and database, is available as a portable application. Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird are also available as portable applications. When you combine the office suite with the ability to surf the Web and check email, you’ll be able to take your most vital computing applications with you wherever you go — right in your pocket. If that’s not enough, you can choose other applications to install on your USB flash drive from

"We believe it's one of the most impactful transformations that will happen in our generation," DelB

Cybercriminals in India creating botnets to capture PCs

Cybercriminals in India are increasingly looking at creating botnets, network of computers aimed at attacking and 'capturing' PCs to spread viruses through them to other systems, according to Microsoft report. India ranks 25th in terms of bot infections detected and removed in the quarter ended June 2010, according to the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report version 9. The report covered 200 countries and territories.   The country had 38,954 computers with bots cleaned in Q2 this year compared to 37,895 computers in the previous quarter. A Botnet is a network of computers, controlled by one computer (bot herder), which attacks another PC and makes it a part of its network. The main drivers for botnets are for recognition and financial gains. The larger the botnet, the more recognition the herder can claim to have among the cybercriminal community.

How to Set Up a Virtual Private Network

How to set up a VPN If you work on the go fairly often, you've probably hopped on a public wireless network at least once or twice. You should have also figured out how to keep your data safe when you're on such a network, by taking precautions such as using your company's virtual private network--if available--or an encrypted Web tunnel such as Hotspot Shield. Tunneling Your Traffic Whether the public wireless network you use is password-protected or pay-per-minute, anyone who connects to the network could spy on your HTTP traffic--restaurant patrons, other people in your airport concourse, or other paying subscribers of a commercial hotspot provider. You can fix this problem by creating an

Microsoft Azure – Cloud Computing – Offerings & Business Opportunities

Microsoft commercially launched it’s internet-scale cloud services platform, Windows Azure for customers, partners and developers in India. Microsoft is betting on Windows Azure in India given the current IT ecosystem here. Considering Azure’s success worldwide (50 partner companies on board, over 3500 applications already built), we feel developers and providers in India will also catchup fast with this latest offering from Microsoft. Since the Azure platform is pretty new in India now, so it is going to generate a lot of opportunities for developers and business for providers. Azure lets you integrate itself with your current IT infrastructure and implementing it is very easy. And since High availability and Cloud Apps are the need of the hour, this new platform will definitely be well accepted in the developer community.
